Kaghati Project
I'm honored to be a part of the Indonesian short film, Kaghati. Directed by Amanda Jayapurna and Stanley Soendoro.
Characters
The two main characters in the film are the grandpa, living in Indonesia, and the granddaughter, who grew up in the States and is visiting him. I wanted to tell their story with their clothing, color palette, and shape language.
Later, I went on to make character expression sheets. Thinking about their age and personality influenced the expressions they had.
Environment & House
Here, I developed the grandpa's house in Indonesia. With the help of Amanda Jayapurna and Stanley Soendoro, I got familiar with the culture and everyday things that'd be in an Indonesian household.
Kites
As the grandpa is a kitemaker, kites play a big role in the story. I researched traditional kites to represent Indonesia, then played with and exaggerated their shapes and colors. I also textured the kite assets to be in the animation.
Color Scripts
The most important three scenes were chosen to get color scripts to help the lighting artists. Here, I thought about the mood and the time in the story. A certain amount of energy needs to be put into each scene, but I also wanted to balance the moods throughout.
Misc.
I also produced various pieces of art for promotional material and details in the short story.
